Advanced+ level powder boarder
Steef's rating of this snowboard:
Considering his boarders profile:
"In powder I want float and a bit of flex. I don't mind to work hard for a perfect powder run, as long as it pays off. Blue skies, bottomless powder describes paradise. Looking for adventure sometimes brings me to the edge."
My favourite powder snowboards:
1. Völkl Squad Prime
2. GNU Beast
3. Burton Barracuda
To all my reviews
Völkl Pace (tested at 163 cm length) is perfect for speeding down on or off-piste with loads of control and grip. This freeride/all-mountain snowboard is stiff and light weighted. Völkl Pace is not meant to play around, but for one direction serious use only: carving it down the slope! Amazing grip as said which of course adds to the good ride I had on the Völkl Pace. And that same quality it showed in powder, which makes it a versatile serious good board. Nice looks too. For the experienced rider who likes to put some effort in it to get the most out of it, and that in any snowcondition. No time to relax, take advantage of this speedmachine!
Hammer it down
Oh yes, I love this board! You can really hammer the Völkl Pace down. Full speed and maximum control, perfect! Very good egde hold too. And when leaving the groomers, the float in the powder is quite good with nice maneuverability. But the more speed, the better Völkl Pace behaves. Definitely one of my favourites and for me worth a 5 star rating. At 163 cm length it felt right for me, as the 169W is just too width for my feet, plus it diminishes the maneuverability.
Völkl about the Pace
Harder, better, faster, stronger Freshly groomed pistes and wide smiles…This extra special construction delivers the ultimate high speed carving rush: A directional freeride sidecut meets pro-camber with a light rocker in the nose. It’s a combination designed to give you a longer effective edge, generating unshakeable grip for full throttle charging. A premium carbon lower beam keeps weight down and plays a big part in providing the ultimate smooth-yet-playful ride. A special P-TEX 4500 graphite base guarantees maximum acceleration and amazing glide. On top of all that, a tapered core gives the fishtail better torsional flex making the turn radius on carves even tighter. The Pace is a freeride warrior for the backcountry - with an optional powder stance as well as a mountable “Short Tail”. The interplay between the rockered, pointed nose and narrow fishtail provides boatloads of float and a silky smooth ride even in tracked terrain. A reactive, agile board that’s as easy to control on the piste as off it.
Pro Camber Shape with Nose Rocker / Pace
With their strong camber, these shapes are especially suited for advanced riders and everyone who is into high speed. The rocker in the nose of the board shortens the contact edge, which improves the board’s agility allowing speed checks even in the steepest faces. Furthermore the early rise of the nose improves float in powder and provides faster gliding characteristics.", says Völkl.
Yes, it works more than fine for me.
Nitro Mountain: if you want a more specific freeride board, still fine on piste.
Völkl Squad Prime: all-mountain stiffness, less in pow, more for serious freestylers.
Flow Maverick: fast and long turn freerider.
