Expert level freerider
Alex's rating of this snowboard:
Considering his boarders profile:
"Easy float, let me hike, surf and play any terrain. I don't like a powder board to be too flexible, because I want to lay some trenches on the groomers too. When the snow starts falling in the evening, I get happily nervous for the next day."
My favourite freeride snowboards:
1. Jones Carbon Flagship
2. Nitro Mountain
3. Jones Flagship
To all my reviews
Play around, the Machete GT is flexible enough
The Ride Machete GT is a flexible snowboard. Or if you like, a very easy forgiving board to ride. Let me start with the pro’s of this quality. When you go snowboarding in a schoolholiday, you will be able to avoid crashes. Just play around, using the piste terrain for jumping, jibbing, turning etc. And as I am more for powder, speed and carving, the lower my rating the better the board probably is for freestylers. Obiously this Ride board is more for the freestylers than for me. No superb carving, no dizzling speed, no adrenaline and challenge in that for me. The only part I could have fun with the Machete GT is in some powder freeriding. It is a bit slow freeriding but still freeriding and that is :). I do like the looks.
Freestylers and beginners board
I find it hard to judge for who the Machete GT is good in the sense of beginner to expert. Probably a beginner will like it because it forgives mistakes. On the other hand, the more experienced snowboarder with focus on freestyle gets around with it. It is probably part of the properties of the freestyle segment. Everybody can ride them and then it is up to the rider what he can do with it. It is a good board, just not a match with my likings.
Ride about the Machete GT
"The 16/17 RIDE Machete GT redesign has a softer flex with just as much pop as last year’s model, thanks to our carbon Popwalls™. Cruisey yet aggressive, the GT has a Hybrid Twin Rocker that’s ready to go anywhere you want to take it. This board's Cleave Edge™ delivers unmatched resistance to edge cracking, and we've eliminated the need for "wide" sizes with our new, scaled sizing system that increases board width proportionately with length. The Machete GT is your new secret weapon.", says Ride. It is a nice, relaxed, not aggressive, freestyle snowboard for as much as I can judge.
Bataleon Omni: same category.
Bataleon Goliath: easy to board.
Salomon Assassin: step up to a higher level and more versatility.
