Advanced+ level powder boarder
Steef's rating of this snowboard:
Considering his boarders profile:
"In powder I want float and a bit of flex. I don't mind to work hard for a perfect powder run, as long as it pays off. Blue skies, bottomless powder describes paradise. Looking for adventure sometimes brings me to the edge."
My favourite powder snowboards:
1. Völkl Squad Prime
2. GNU Beast
3. Burton Barracuda
To all my reviews
Jones Ultra Mountain Twin (161 cm) is a very maneuverable snowboard to attack any piste with. Better in short agressive turns than speeding long carvers. Very grippy and with some nice pop but not that much to scare you off. Off piste the Jones Ultra Mountain Twin has enough float, but you'll have to be keen to lean back a bit for keeping the nose out.
Attack on mode
The Ultra Mountain Twin board feels thrustful and very lively, lightweighted and maneuverable. It really brings out an agressive urge to rip down the slope. Short and fast powerful turns is what the Jones Ultra Mountain Twin wants, very nice! On the other hand, speeding down and in long carved turns the board feels a bit nervous. Off-piste its OK as long as you remember to lean back, it generates sufficient float. For intermediate to advanced+ riders who are not looking for big speed or really deep snow all day, this is a very nice board that gives positive energy back to you. A 4 star rating for the Jones Ultra Mountain Twin from me.
Jones about the Ultra Mountain Twin
The Ultra Mountain Twin is the new team favorite. It’s a lean and mean directional twin freestyle board that shares the same shape as the time-tested Mountain Twin only it’s built with speed boosting, chatter sucking premium materials. Rocker tip and tail deliver serious float in the soft stuff while camber underfoot combined with Mellow Magne-Traction give the Ultra Mountain Twin snap and hold on hard pack. Bombing into jump lines, the Sintered 9900 base provides the speed boost you need to go big while the carbon fiber stringers provide the stability to stomp. New for 2017 the Ultra Mountain Twin features an Ash Veneer topsheet and comes in three new sizes.", says Jones. Chatter sucking premium materials? Eh, could be. I just found it fun to ride.
Salomon Assassin: playful alternative with more flex.
Burton Parkitect: old model, quite good for such a small board.
Völkl Squad Prime: to be said a freestyler (pipe etc) but all-mountain quality for me.
