Reviewer Alex

"Easy float, let me hike, surf and play any terrain. I don't like a powder board to be too flexible, because I want to lay some trenches on the groomers too. When the snow starts falling in the evening, I get happily nervous for the next day."

A-Typical build board

The Bataleon Camel Toe has such a typical shape that I want to tell about it before writing about the performance. First, the Camel Toe has camber from tip to tail, but only in the middle strip. In the four corners it has a sidebase uplift, let's call it rocker, which makes the whole snowboard sort of a bowl. That together with a wider waist than usual supplies the floatation in powder snow. According to Bataleon it is so effective that a shorter length than you usually take for a freeride board will do. Directionally shaped, it helps to keep blalance and stay stable. The upstanding side strips on the Camel Toe (and other Bataleon boards) are different than the traditional shaped boards that are torsional flat and that impacts the way of riding and switching on harder snow. The total picture is that you don't need to be an expert to ride it, but personal preferences will decide if an expert will like it as well.

The effect of shape on boarding

The shape of the Bataleon Camel Toe influences the behavior big time. The floatation of the Camel Toe is simply top notch, so easy to plunge in and out of bottomless pow. And once you are used to the idea of taking a shorter length, you'll notice that turning short is a lot easier. That makes the Camel Toe very suitable for exploring forest for example. What I also like about the Camel Toe that although the camber doesn't make it a stiff board, it does give the feeling that you have a bit of power under your feet. All these positive aspects have unfortunately as side effect that the performance on firm snow, pistes, is less than the more traditional freeride boards. This is a personal preference of course, I like to feel the edge of a board when carving and especially on icy parts it feels too long very slippery until I hit the edge. For a pure powder board only a minor thing, therefor the Bataleon Camel Toe is still a 4 star snowboard for me. Very nice in the backcountry, a relaxed choice for a pow ride!

Bataleon about the Camel Toe

"Camel toes dwell on the beaches and in yoga studios. This Camel toe, however, is bred for the deepest, steepest and snowiest mountains. Its surf-inspired shape hovers atop pow while the beech wood bolstered edges aid swift hacks and high speed carves. This is the most versatile powder board in the world. Not only will it float like a cloud, the 3BT shaping gives it unparalleled carving and all mountain abilities that no board can match. This combination you will not find in any other Pow board out there thanks to the unique 3BT Pow shape.", says Bataleon.
