Reviewer Alex

"Which board has the highest limits on every terrain? Push and enjoy it to the max everywhere. Adrenaline comes from sharp long carves till blinding amounts of fresh snow in the woods. All-mountain snowboards should be able to handle it all."

Excellent on piste

The Nitro Woodcarver (tested length 163 cm) is a directional all-mountain snowboard (new in 2018) with, as the name suggests, a preference for carving on groomers. Long turns are excellent with the Woodcarver. The edge feels stiff and gives confidence not break out when you put power on it. The Nitro Woodcarver challenges the rider to attack the piste aggressively. I like that. Besides that the Woodcarver is good on slick groomers, you won't have a problem either when going in powder and ride big lines. Floatation is enough and at the same time not as good as the specific powder boards. But keeping up the pace will get you a fun ride in fresh snow too. The Nitro Woodcarver is a 4.5 star snowboard to me, most of all because of the excellent performance on piste.

Direct steering

Nitro Woodcarver is a fairly stiff snowboard, certainly torsional it contains power. As the Woodcarver is easy to initiate your turn with plus stiff, make sure you direct it correctly. Direct steering is so much fun and also makes it not a forgiving snowboard. The Nitro Woodcarver is therefor best from advanced riders and up. Once you are in your turn, it won't forgive a lot. I like that, but for others it might not be playful enough. The rebound of the Woodcarver is not enormous which fits with the preference of the board for longer turns. Those you can make at full speed, that is where the fun is in the Woodcarver. It is a stable board, especially nice at high speed, which also off-piste makes it specific. Short turn demanding terrain like forests is harder work, plus it doesn't forgive, so concentrate and do what you have to do, until you have the space to let it go.

Nitro about the Woodcarver

"Turning has never been this good!", says Nitro.
Excellent snowboard for top (recreational) carving on slick groomers.

Related snowboards

Capita Supernova: another excellent powerful more specific carve board.
Nitro Pantera: stiff as well, more rebound in short turns.
Amplid UNW8: more versatile snowboard, absolute top-end.

I'm considering the Woodcarver vs. the Flagship - how would you say do the two compare in terms of carving, edge hold and high speed on piste (hard and sometimes icy snow) and how they do in powder?

Hi Kaspar,

For me the Woodcarver is better on piste, but the difference is bigger in powder. There the Jones Flagship is so much better, it leaves the Nitro Woodcarver far behiind.
