Advanced+ level all-mountain boarder
Alex's rating of this snowboard:
Considering his boarders profile:
"Which board has the highest limits on every terrain? Push and enjoy it to the max everywhere. Adrenaline comes from sharp long carves till blinding amounts of fresh snow in the woods. All-mountain snowboards should be able to handle it all."
My favourite all-mountain snowboards:
1. Nitro Pantera
2. Amplid UNW8
3. Capita Supernova
To all my reviews
Excellent on piste
The Amplid Pentaquark (tested length 160 cm, , new in 2018) is an excellent all-mountain snowboard and will fit boarders that love to carve on slick groomers. Especially long turns at high speed is what the Pentaquark is good for. Super stable at speed and still pretty maneuverable at lower speed but not forgiving. For a softboots snowboard the Pentaquark is very stiff. If you are used to hardboots and typical racecarve snowboards, this Amplid snowboard is not that stiff. It makes it more versatile than the racecarvers and a bigger audience will be able to control the Pentaquark. Still you'll need skills to get the maximum thrill out of it which makes it suitable for riders who are at least advanced and sporty. Very good at what the Pentaquark is made for: carve carve carve, it gets 4.5 stars from me.
Rebound and powder
Amplid Pentaquark is a camber shaped snowboard and you get a nice rebound out of your turn. That can be more extreme, but you'll have a hard time finding the edge hold limit in long turn carving. Obviously the Pentaquark is not for playing and doesn't forgive. Ride it with power on preferably empty pistes for the adrenaline shot. Although you can ride the Amplid Pentaquark off-piste as well, I wouldn't pick it for that terrain. Too stiff to maneuver it easy. If you look for more versatility, take the Amplid UNW8 which is more a one quiver.
Amplid about the Pentaquark
"The science of the Eurocarve
Peter Bauer's soulful, surf-inspired carving style inspired the public to fall in love with carving the first time around. Desgned by Peter, the Pentaquark, with its futuristic geometry and construction, breathes new life into the "carving board" concept. A little extra width at the feet makes deep carves possible without ridiculous binding angles. Full length Pop Camber transforms the Pentaquark into a coiled spring, bursting with energy and ready to catapult its rider out of each turn and into the next. HEXO2 strips unnecessary weight from the construction for a dynamic and highly responsive board feel. Squaring-off the tail, like a race board, maximises the Pentaquark's effective edge for next level edge hold. Its All-Terrain nose cavity adds deep snow capability while Antiphase reigns-in tip chatter to keep the Pentaquark's edges engaged and holding speed. Release the centrifugal animal in you!.", says Amplid.
Nitro Woodcarver: good carver as well, more forgiving.
Nitro Pantera: great edge grip with more focus on shorter carves with more rebound.
Amplid UNW8: more versatile snowboard, absolute top-end.
