Reviewer Heyman

"Edge grip and accelleration are crucial elements for a slalom ski. Edge grip to challenge you each time to turn sharper and go almost horizontal through the turn. Accellaration to shoot you into the next turn until your legs burn."

Accessible asymmetrical slalom ski

The Elan SLX Fusion is very different from its predecessor the Elan SLX Waveflex Fusion. Much has changed. The waist has become wider and the tip and tail have got a little rocker on the outside of the ski, which makes the skis asymmetrical and much easier to turn. But the most important change is that the extremely angular tail has gone. That means that a sliding turn is possible as well, which makes this ski so much more accessible to a wider public. And that's a relief to a lot of skiers, because the angular tail made it impossible to make a less agressive turn. Each carve always had to be full throttle. The asymmetrical shape of the Amphibio technique allows you to relax once in while. And believe me, that's a welcoming feeling, because skiing full throttle at the SLX Fusion is really exhausting.

Accessibility versus playfulness

Having been made more accessible, the Elan SLX Fusion also has become less of an extreme carving machine. And it has not gained in playfulness. Most people might not care about that and give this ski a 5 star rating anyway. To me, if it comes to these kind af serious slalom skis, I prefer the Elan SLX FIS Plate. They feel like they've got a couple of little rockets attached to them!

Elan about the SLX Fusion

"No need to compromise between speed and precision - the Elan SLX Fusion delivers everything you need for a superior slalom experience. Power Spine for better edge grip and torsional stability and our Amphibio® Profile allows for faster and direct turn initiation", says Elan. But there has certainly been made a compromise between accessibility and outright fun.
