Reviewer Steef

"For me skiing on piste is all about testing the limits of speed and grip of the skis, both slalom and giant slalom. Comfort and flex are less important to me than stability. Skiing is supposed to take a lot of energy out of you."

This GS ski is a racing monster

Predecessor of the new Atomic D2 3.0 GS 2015. It is an impressive GS ski. Just that. Man, what a tight and sick giant slalom skis the Atomic Redster D2 GS (174) are. They beg you to take them from top down the mountain as quickly as possible in one quick run with high topspeed turns. And then up again to do the same but then faster until your legs burn off. Lucky me for testing the D2 GS in the most perfect conditions. Because, and this is the weak spot, it requires a quiet and well prepared piste or otherwise you will get hopelessly frustrated. The Redster D2 GS is no ski for an easy day on the slopes, with lots of people and/or bumps.

In action on piste

D2 GS must be constructed with one goal in mind: racing down. This is what this Atomic Giant Slalom ski does best. No compromise. Very stiff and no beginners ski because it is unforgiving. But if you use them right, and put all energy in them, it will come out again in square numbers. The harder you push them, the better they perform. Loads of controllable grip at high speed, unbelievable. Beautiful.

Atomic about the Redster D2 GS

The Redster D2 GS has the doubledeck technology (D2) which makes it easier to carve without compromising on edge grip, says Atomic. For me these are top speed high performance skis. Very good in doing that job, less in other jobs. But this is not a compromise ski. You take this one out for that perfect sunny day on a quiet and well prepared steep track.
