Intermediate level freeride
skier Steef's rating of this ski:
Considering his skiers profile:
"For freeride skis counts for me: stability at speed over comfort and maneuverability. Of course freeride skis need to provide enough floatation for bottomless powder snow. Versatility in the sense of quality on other snow conditions is a bonus. And I rather put more than less energy in skiing, also in the backcountry."
My favourite freeride skis:
1. Völkl V-Werks Katana
2. Stöckli Stormrider 107
To all my reviews
Provocative brutal beast
Wow, this Völkl V-Werks Katana (184cm) ski is really a special one of a kind. Challenging, unusual, but with very stunning looks. Brutal as if it shouts to you: come on then, let's rip that mountain! Thin and lightweighted freeride ski, but very stiff at the same time. Wide for powder use and because of the full rocker quite good to handle on piste. Of course, it takes some effort to switch from side to side, but hey, this is not a slalom ski, it's an all-mountain shredder for advanced up to expert skiers!
Power power power!!!
Man, what a wonderfull time I had trying these V-Werks Katana skis! I really had, in spite of the bad off-piste conditions. Almost scared by the looks to put them on, but when on my feet they felt very light and yet strong and stable. Ok, a crowdy pass-through path is not the Katana habitat, but when speeding up they feel so strong, stiff, and stable! It begs you to power up, and the more you put into them, the better they perform. Amazingly good grip for long speed turns on piste. It takes some effort to throw them on their sides but then you can really carve them hard! Maybe it's not the most usable ski for the ordinary day, but I fell in love with them, So for me a full 5 star rating!
Völkl about the V-Werks Katana
"The radical freerider for the most demanding skiers, produced using exquisite V-WERKS technology. The ultra-thin yet extremely functional and stable 3D construction with full carbon wrapper enables an enormously light full rocker construction with an impressively dynamic skiing performance. There‘s no lighter and trusted way to test the limits of freeriding.", according to Völkl. All yes, and although there are friendlier priced alternatives, none of them have this stunning looks!
