Intermediate level freeride
skier Alex's rating of this ski:
Considering his skiers profile:
"I like that great surfy feeling of skiing in powder snow like most people do. On extreme days a pure rocker ski is nice but usually I prefer the combination with camber. That challenges me more and supplies versatility."
My favourite freeride skis:
1. Stöckli Stormrider 95
2. Rossignol Soul 7
3. Armada JJ 2.0
To all my reviews
Deep deep powder is just enough
No powder too deep for the Salomon Rocker2 122 skis. How good can it be, instead of one snowboard, now I have two boards under my feet. These freeride skis are wide enough for big powder lines at speed. It is a delight to test them, again and again. As soon as you hit the powder, you feel the benefits of so much float surface underneath you. The Salomon Rocker2 122 is constructed with a bit of camber in the middle which gives it that little bite. It adds to the responsiveness and character of the ski. Together with powder surfing quality (rocker tip and tail), this is a 5 star freeride ski for me.
Rocker for powder
For me, not too much experience in skiing in powder, the Salomon Rocker2 122 is a great help to enjoy the powder. Skis at these sizes I am not scared at all that the ski will dive and get stuck. Which would mean me diving as well. So just concentrate on the terrain and find the best powder stretches. There you push the whole ski into the snow and you will turn easily when it pops you out again. I am pretty sure an expert can get a lot more out of it, but even for me it is big fun.
At this size the Salomon Rocker2 is of no use on the groomed slopes. Just slide to the lift if you have to and don't expect to carve or anything close to that. So once you get to the point that you have to leave the off-piste, just make sure you have build up enough adrenaline as you won't get any on an icy piste. When you get a cabin lift up, you'll see that they won't fit in most skiboxes outside the cabin. Then you use the snowboardspots. No problem, but i wonder how would that work if it wasn't for the invention of snowboards?
Salomon about the Rocker2 122
"Your deep powder tool. A full Twin Rocker profile and 122mm waist provides maximum floatation with a playful, surfy feel, while the low camber under foot gives edge grip and stability to make getting back to the lift fun, not freightening.", says Salomon. To me they are for freeriding fresh powder snow and I have no idea what else to do with them. Fantastic, I love this extreme gear!
