Reviewer Heyman

"One-Ski Quiver: the ultimate ski that carves like a slalom ski, accellerates like a GS ski, is as comfortable as an all-mountain ski, cuts through chop like a freeride ski and surfs in bottomless powder like a fat powder ski. Impossible. But which ski comes closest?"

Lightweight narrow freeride ski

The Salomon Rocker2 100 is a lightweight freeride ski that measures only 100mm underfoot. The big rocker front and aft provide maximum floatation in powder snow. Although the Rocker2 100 is the only ski in the Rocker2 series without a honeycomb tip, there's almost no tip vibration on hard surfaces. The flat middle section of the Rocker2 100 makes turning easy, but gives little edge grip on icy slopes.

Super versatile little freeride ski

The only thing the Salomon Rocker2 100 doesn't handle perfectly is an icy piste. But for everything else this is a fantastic ski! It's easy to turn in deep snow because of the early rise tip and tail. It's a joy to feel how relaxed this ski remains when shooting over uneven and hard off-piste terrain, allways in control. And what a surprise it is when on piste you dive into a full force carve turn. The Rocker2 100 holds that turn and the more power you apply the sharper it takes the turn. This ski is a joy to ride for every advanced to expert skier in almost every circumstance.

Salomon about the Rocker2 100

"Twin Rocker shape, full wood core and full sandwich construction, the Rocker2 100 is equally at home in the park & pipe as it is off piste in powder. One-stop-shopping for freeriders looking for an energetic ski that does it all.", says Salomon. Yes, this ski does it all (except ice) and is failry easy to ski. Therefore I advise the more advanced skiers a 5-10 cm length above their own height, because it adds just that little extra of everything that makes this ski so good.

Love the Yellow Gentian reviews…My question is, in a direct comparison, which is a better all around ski and why: Salomon Rocker 2 100 or the Head Venturi?

Hi Liam, thanks for your comment. I would say that the Head Venturi is more allround. It is heavier than the Salomon Rocker2 100 and therefore more stable, more damp. Where the Salomon shoots over chop, the Head rather goes through it. The Salomon floats better in powder snow, the Head carves better on groomers. They are both extremely fun to ski, but for skiing on a daily basis in all circumstances I would choose the Head Venturi.

2017-2018 Powder Ski Review

Wider skis are better! Let's check it out.

by Craig

I have selected some of the wider offerings (approximate 115mm underfoot and above) that were available for 2016-17 season, as well, the new releases coming for 2017-18. See the individual ski reviews on the Yellow Gentian site for further details on each ski, and best internet pricing on...
