Reviewer Heyman

"What I look for in my ultimate freeride ski is plenty of float, maneuverability and playfulness. And you should be able to lay some trenches on the slopes as well. Weight reduction is all important for easy turning in difficult circumstances."

Outrageously fast freeride ski

The DPS Wailer 112 RP is very light and very stiff. That is an unusual but much sought-after combination. It has a long tip and tail rocker and very slight camber underfoot. Tip and tail are tapered which means that the widest point is not at the extremeties but closer to the middle of the ski. All this makes the Wailer 112 RP maneuverable without loosing any stability and very quick edge to edge. The ski gives the impression of being much narrower than it actually is.

Light, stiff, maneuverable, playful ...

To reach a stretch of beautiful and untouched deep powder snow, you usually have to get past a gnarly steep section. The Wailer 112 RP is made to jump up and turn 180 degrees in a flash. Combine that ability with float in deep powder and stability at unbridled speed and you have a super freeride ski. So if you're planning on taking on the narrowest of couloirs, the DPS Wailer 112 RP is the ski you want. And they look really cool as well.

DPS about the Wailer 112RP

"The now iconic Wailer 112RP has been redesigned and rebooted into something even more special. Featuring a lower tip and tail rocker profile that increases power and stability in mixed snow without compromising the RP’s legendary versatility, the Wailer 112RP2 is now endowed with a bigger sweet spot across a larger speed spectrum. A new chapter to the story has begun and the 112RP2 is poised to become one of skiing’s truly all-time classic shapes.", says DPS. All true but I must say that my experience is that laying trenches on groomers is hard.

2017-2018 Powder Ski Review

Wider skis are better! Let's check it out.

by Craig

I have selected some of the wider offerings (approximate 115mm underfoot and above) that were available for 2016-17 season, as well, the new releases coming for 2017-18. See the individual ski reviews on the Yellow Gentian site for further details on each ski, and best internet pricing on...
