Advanced freeride skier
Craig's rating of this ski:
Considering his skiers profile:
"Powder bump runs with numerous face shots, creamy untracked pow turns, and even huge carve turns on empty groomed runs at the beginning of the day are my favorite. I am not a high speed skier."

Another superb ski with DPS Foundation construction
The DPS Wailer 106 Foundation is a TOP PICK in this approximate width. DPS skis in this Foundation construction have a very similar feel. Perhaps, I should go a step further, and say, that each construction layup ranging from lightest to heaviest (Tour, Alchemist, and Foundation) within the DPS line, has a very similar feel for all the available widths. If you prefer the feel of the Foundation construction in this 106, you will likely find this same feel in the other available Foundation widths, as I have found in the 95F Cassiar, the Wailer 106F, and the Lotus 124F. All of these before mentioned Foundation skis are a top pick in their respective widths, and garnered a 5 star rating. When building a Quiver of skis, this similar "on-snow feel" makes the transition between widths easy, as conditions vary. Based on my profile, the Foundation layup is my favorite construction in the DPS line. The damping and stability, that the Foundation construction offers, exceeds that of the Alchemist, with only a modest increase in weight. These characteristics also contribute to the Foundations superb carving characteristics, not to mention excellent edge engagement, above average edge hold, stability, and large sweet spot.
Excellent in bumps for this width. With very good-excellent damping, medium soft flex, large sweet spot, and superb stability for this width, the Wailer 106 is a top pick in soft moguls.
Not available for test. Based on my experience with the DPS Lotus 124F, and the DPS Cassiar 95F (which I have skied in powder), and have a very similar shape and profile, float should be average or better, for this 106mm approximate width. The damping, stability, and softer flex of this Foundation construction, should make for a excellent ride in pow.
This ski is best suited for
- Excellent wide one ski quiver for soft snow regions
- Excellent middle ski in your three ski quiver
- Excellent powder ski in warmer, or humid snow regions
DPS about the Wailer 106 Foundation
"The Foundation 106 is a ski to get excited about. Foundation’s novel new bamboo design has taken the overall feel of damping and solidity to new levels. The F106 benefits from a refined rocker line and Chassis-inspired sidecut, which provides instant engagement and a smooth turn finish. Both attributes accent the hypnotic feel of a flex profile that bends around your boot, drawing you directly into deeper, more playful arcs across a wide range of terrain and snow.", says DPS.
