Advanced freeride skier
Craig's rating of this ski:
Considering his skiers profile:
"Powder bump runs with numerous face shots, creamy untracked pow turns, and even huge carve turns on empty groomed runs at the beginning of the day are my favorite. I am not a high speed skier."

A new and odd shape for 2017 - 2018 season
The Blizzard Spur 2018 is a very unusual looking ski, and is guaranteed to start a conversation on the lift! Not only is the side cut asymmetric, but the tip and tail are as well. You won't get the right and left ski confused. I was told the asymmetrical sidecut keeps the two skis parallel when on edge. It also has an angled side top sheet, to aid in a smooth flow through powder when on edge. It incorporates a partial sheet of titanal under the binding, similar to the Blizzards Rustler 11 (new for 2017-18 season). It's flex is medium soft, with unidirectional carbon in its laminate.
Surprisingly, the Spuri makes very nice short and medium radius turns and loves high edge angles, on consistent terrain. Turn initiation is very good. Longer radius, higher speed turns, were more challenging for this light weight, and lighter damped ski. It does not have the familiar damp feel I am accustomed to from the Blizzard line. The core construction is based on Blizzards "ladies" line....as mentioned by the rep.
Yes, I did take this odd looking ski into some rather firm bumps, and it was shockingly manageable, with quick turn initiation and flickability, for this much ski. Torsional stability was also good. I thought I might poke the rather pointed, and odd looking tip into a bump, but it never happened!
This is Blizzard's widest offering, with softer flex, wide fore body, and light construction, you can expect excellent float.
Bllizzard about the Spur
"In an attempt to search for the ultimate powder experience, Blizzard has committed to an on-going project that will allow our engineers, in conjunction with athlete and ambassador in-put and testing, to push the boundaries of ski design. The new Spur is a total modernization of the traditional powder ski and is unlike anything we have ever done before. “We approached the Spur design using inspiration from surfboard shapes because true powder is in many ways, similar to water. So much of what you see is based on Hydro-Dynamics.", says Blizzard.
