"I prefer a heavy damp ski, without much rebound. I place emphasis on control and style, no matter the conditions. My favorite memories are double diamond bumps runs with a foot of untracked!"

Light weight.....and a winner!

Finding a ski matched to your skier profile may be the most important element in a successful ride, and finding the proper length can be challenging, particularly for a high performance powder ski. Most often, women's skis use lighter construction, and often result in lower performance. For my profile, I have found the low 170s length appropriate in most wider pow skis. I should clarify, there is not much selection in women's skis over 105mm underfoot, and usually they jump from 168 to 178cm in length. What's a girl with my profile to do, on those big pow days!

Good damping and carving

Armada has an answer.....the Trace 108. Yes, it's not super wide, but I did test these skis in packed powder conditions. Right away, I noticed the light feel of this ski. In the past, I have found light construction, most often coupled with light damping, can be a disadvantage in variable terrain, and bumps. So....I went right for the bump run to put this ski to the test. I was expecting poppy rebound, not so! The Trace handled beautifully in some pretty firm moguls, smooth and comfortable. Quick edge to edge, this Armada has good damping, but is light weight, an engineering marvel! On skied off groomers with shiny spots, this 108 had great edge hold, and was a smooth carver. At this width underfoot, I view this ski as "All-Mountain". It will get you through most conditions, except maybe those deepest days. This is a easy and forgiving ski, which any skier, from intermediate to expert, will enjoy.

Armada about the Trace 108

"For the lady who likes to crush on the way up and the way down, the Trace 108 offers the lightweight efficiency of a competitive touring ski, without the chatter or instability. ", says Armada.

2017-2018 Powder Ski Review

Wider skis are better! Let's check it out.

by Craig

I have selected some of the wider offerings (approximate 115mm underfoot and above) that were available for 2016-17 season, as well, the new releases coming for 2017-18. See the individual ski reviews on the Yellow Gentian site for further details on each ski, and best internet pricing on...
