Advanced level all-mountain
skier Alex's rating of this ski:
Considering his skiers profile:
The Völkl Code Speedwall S UVO is an all-mountain ski that does about everything with ease on piste. With the S for Short turns, the radius is more suited for fast maneuverability than long steady carves. It makes the Code Speedwall S UVO feel playful. The playfulness is in this case a matter of easiness to control the ski and not in flexibility. Nicely tough for a frontside all-mountain ski, you have the feeling that it still is a serious ski and not a beginner ski. Personally I like a frontside ski like the Speedwall S UVO tougher, more challenging. Now this all condition ski is an easy day to cruise anywhere without being pushed to my limits. That doesn't mean that you can't push the Speedwall S UVO around, it holds actually quite well on the edges.
All conditions on piste
Easy turning on any type of snow you'll find on prepared slopes is for me the biggest plus for the Völkl Code Speedwall S UVO. Rocker tip and tail makes switching from carving to sliding and back a piece of cake. And that same rocker gives it the flex you might want when there is a fresh layer of snow on a firm prepared slope below. More fresh snow? No, there is the Code Speedwall S UVO not comfortable for. Bumpy piste at the end of the day, maneuver your way down with comfort. Intermediate and relaxing advanced skiers can cruise with ease, all day and all week. The UVO system that decreases tip vibration has less effect at lower speeds though. It works for racing. If I want to do that, I won't take the Code Speedwall S UVO, but the Völkl Racetiger SL UVO.
Völkl about the Code Speedwall S UVO
"The Code Speedwall S is shaped like a slalom ski, but wider. With a Speedwall 2.0 reinforced wood core, rMotion2 with Marker XCell componentry, and tip and tail rocker, this Code provides a super-smooth blend of quickness and all-mountain versatility. Ability: Advanced, Expert. Conditions: 80% Groomed, 20% Powder.", says Völkl. Very maneuverable, easy to ski.
Stöckli Laser AX: shorter radius with a lot of grip and speed.
Salomon X-Drive 8.0 FS: also a frontside all-mountain ski for better skiers as well.
Elan Amphibio 12: compareable all-mountain ski, good for intermediates too.
