Reviewer Alex

"I like rocker for easy turning and float off-piste. Tip vibration doesn't bother me at all. Of course versatility is a condition for a quality all-mountain ski. It depends on snow conditions whether I prefer frontside skis."

V-Shape is a nice experience

Salomon has continued the BBR series with the V-shape skis. Besides the change in looks and name (8.9 to 9.0), the ski is the same. When I first tested the BBR 9.0, there was a curiosity. Having read about them and seen them used by “experts”, I wondered, would the BBR 9.0 skis do it for me as well? And they did! For me, not an expert skier, it was both fun in powder and on the piste. It is that combination of carve and powder quality that I highly appreciate. These skis keep me floating in powder snow, so I could concentrate on my skiing skills. Instead of digging them out every three turns. Then when the powder party is over and the piste shows up, the BBR helps to carve short turns so easily. It felt to me that I was a hell of a better skier than I actually am.

9.0 for performance and looks

I like the way they look. First time I saw them, Salomon got me wondering what it was. Surfboard looks, but is it a serious ski? That shape is something I had never seen before. And I wasn’t the only one as I never had so many people asking me about it a couple of years ago while skiing. But still, the looks maybe fantastic, it must deliver performance as well. Off-piste in a good layer of powder, the wide tip kept me floating easily. That saves a lot of energy. So I think the BBR 9.0 is a better powder ski than the front-side all-mountain skis. But just for powder there are better alternatives. For me it is the combination with the carving quality that makes it stand out. On a groomed piste this Salomon ski is steady in its turns. I expected it would be less stable than it is. Just with high speeds straight down the BBR 9.0 got a bit nervous. I love to take this ski for those days where you can still find some nice powder stretches but inevitable you need to ski on the piste as well.

Salomon about the BBR 9.0

"The original BBR, BBR 9.0 offers more options for more fun. Intuitive & fun skiing on piste & easy access to off piste make it the ideal ski for intermediate to strong skiers.", says Salomon. The narrow tail and center help you to carve at a short radius. I think the carve is nice, but not all the way on full power. On the other hand with a bunch of loose snow on the piste, you’ll cut through with some power. On packed snow the tip tends to vibrate.
