Expert level slalom skier
Sieg's rating of this ski:
Considering his skiers profile:
Slalom ski with a stiff tip
The Völkl Racetiger Speedwall SL is a stiff slalom ski which is not forgiving. At high speed the ski is easier to handle than at low speed. This because of the stiffness of the ski. If you make a little mistake (at low - and at high speed), you will be punished. So a good technique and no fear for high speed is required. But if your technique is above average, you can make sharp turns whit a lot of grip. The Völkl Racetiger Speedwall SL deserves my 4 stars. At the moment of testing, there was no fresh snow for two weeks. So the pistes were hard and in good conditions for testing slalom skies. This ski is in comparison to the Elan SLX waveflex Fushion a bit slower when you switch side to side.
At high speed you can easily make, carved, short and long turns. The stability of the ski is in both situations very good. Because the stiffness in the tip of the ski, you need to give a lot af pressure at the tip to make the carved short turns. I had to get used to this way of skiing. At lower speed, this ski needs a lot of energy and force to handle. If you like speed and your technique is good, this ski can be a good ski for you.
Völkl about the Racetiger Speedwall SL
"Völkl's decades of World Cup experience make possible the serial production of a slalom weapon tuned for uncompromising aggressiveness and maneuverability. The full sensor woodcore and Titanal topsheet lend the slalom tiger its liveliness - a successful recipe for impressive reaction speeds.", says Völkl. To make use of the maneuverability of the ski, you need speed. At that moment this ski is a beautiful ski to make short en long carved turns.
Elan SLX Waveflex: for which you need some more skills to get the best out of it.
Salomon X-Race: I like the 170cm a lot as well.
Rossignol Hero Elite ST Ti : very good slalom ski.
