Reviewer WJ

"I like to ski comfortably on piste, but the ski's stability is important. After 3 decades of skiing I am experienced and my technique is fine. I go faster than average, but I don't push it to the limit. And I like a ski that looks cool."

Short turn carve ski

My first experience with the Rossignol Pursuit 14 AR Basalt was one of a nervous ski. One that needs a lot of powerful steering to make it do what I want. But after a while I experienced a different kind of ski. One of easy effortless carving of short to medium turns. When you throw this ski on its side, the tail definitely kicks in and helps you finish the turn.

Short turns are easy

At moderate speed the Rossignol Pursuit 14 AR Basalt is a fine ski. It carves well. The control feels good. Short turns are easy. Big carving turns are ok. But when you want to race down the mountain at top speed, this ski is just not rigid enough. That little rocker in front, which Rossignol calls the Power Turn Rocker, makes the Rossignol Pursuit 14 AR Basalt instable and more difficult to control.

Rossignol about the Pursuit 14 AR Basalt

"the new Pursuit 14 AR Basalt is a dedicated high-performance carving ski loaded with horsepower for advanced frontside skiers", says Rossignol. I'm afraid that I don't agree. It's a good ski, but not high-performance. It is powerful, but not rigid enough for high speed. And it's not for advanced, but for intermediate skiers. All in all a pretty nice ski for relaxed but agile skiing. But it doesn't make me smile. Therefore it's just not good enough.
